Most people in the UK have a positive story to tell about an NHS professional who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in some way. (And yes, more recently…a concern about an overstretched and underfunded system.)
I’ve had numerous moving experiences, most memorably when a midwife came to visit us on her day off after my son was born by emergency caesarean.
It’s one of many reasons that I feel privileged to have worked with many NHS trusts, primary care organisations and the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Nursing (RCN).

This body of work, which spans nearly 15 years, highlights the warmth of connection between patients and professionals, their dedication and passion, and also shows diverse elements of the organisations including sustainability initiatives, campaigns, events, and the unique RCP library, medicinal garden and the members’ hotel.
I work unobtrusively and sensitively, and connect to people with compassion and humour (where appropriate!), so this work is genuine and relatable for target audiences, in contrast to a lot of medical stock imagery.
This photography has helped organisations improve patient care and awareness; and raise funds, revenues and increase the impact of campaigns.

I commissioned Jonathan to take pictures in our Simulation Unit at St Thomas' Hospital, and we also worked together on a participatory photography storytelling project in the hospital with young people from the local area.
